i don’t know. ummm. my name is not actually laurence, for one, but i am from arizona. so i guess so far i’m 50/50 with truth-telling, which is pretty par for the course with me. the blog name comes from lawrence of arabia, which is really only my second favorite epic set in the middle east. my favorite is 1963′s cleopatra, starring a young, randy-looking elizabeth taylor. the film is way too long, was the most expensive movie made to that date, and was a tremendous flop. i love it. i also just love the middle east, period. i’m very fond of deserts, i suppose. i actually lived in syria in 2008 and travelled around the region, including staying on a houseboat on the nile for a few weeks – which was tight. sadly, i went into massive amounts of debt pursuing an MA in middle eastern studies and an MPP in who-the-hell-cares, so now i live in a terrible part of dc. which is actually going pretty well, all things considered. i’m also engaged to an adorable canadian. hence all the maple leaves on the blog.
